Captain's Blog
I know that it seemed like the longest winter ever,
particularly if you are Australian, but the sun is now shining and the first
class cricket season is under way.
With three weeks to the first game, you've just got enough time to replace
those elasticated whites if they don't fit, polish your helmet and rub down the
old bat's face before you realise that you should have gone to the nets after
all.
This year we are playing our home fixtures at the Metropolitan Police
Ground at Imber Court in Molesey and although this means we won't get Gary's
teas, I'm hoping that the potential use of the bar and social facilities
(swimming pool, tennis courts etc) will make it easier for players to get out of
cutting the lawn on a Sunday afternooon.
I'm pleased to report that we have over 20 members, a full fixture list and
a tour to Dorset again this year, details of which are on the club web site. The
Saturday tour game is against another touring side and I am assured they are
not Rendcomb College U-15s. This year being our 20th Anniversary, we can also
look forward to the end of season dinner at Lord's and with three of the
season's awards already won, time is running out if you want to be presented
with a trophy in front of Old Father Time. The President will be contacting you
shortly and you will need to commit early to secure a place at the table.
The first game of the season is against our friends Olinda Vandals on 8 May
and it would be helpful if you would all confirm your availability by emailing
me or updating the website accordingly as soon as possible. Reminders will go
out over the next two weeks.
I look forward to seeing you all over the
season. There's lots to look forward to and I wish you all a successful season.
