Richmond Leg Breakers Cricket Club - Indoor Game 2012

Annual Indoor Cricket Match 2012

 PRESIDENT’S VIII v CAPTAIN’S VIII

Friday 26th October
Match Details

Obama vs Romney. Owen vs Williams. How our future depends on the outcome of such contests. Unlike recent years, the end of season indoor game went to the wire this year and in the last over of the match any result was possible. A good turn out meant we played 9 a side and 18 overs although this seemed unlikely 25 minutes into the game with three players including your skipper stuck in traffic on the Westway.

The President won the toss and elected to field. Burnsy and Craig Harrison got the Captains IX off to a steady start with 45 off their 4 overs. Nav and Tommy did well but lost too many wickets due to some suicidal running and at the halfway stage, the score was 65. The Southey Bros put in some powerful hitting to get 48 which would have been more but for 2 wickets in the last 3 balls. With minutes to spare before being timed out, Steve, Jack and your Skipper ran onto to court to bat in a round robin for the last 6 overs. Facing some hostile bowing from Sunny and Kamal, the last three (?) put on 38 for the last wicket. 170 off 18 overs.

In reply, the Presidents IX got off a good start with Sunny and Trevor putting on 33. The Dryden Bros matched them and at the half way stage, the score was 66. Neck and neck. Hostile bowling, this time from Burnsey, and a few sharp run outs restricted Mike and Wayne to 22, but this didn't matter with Sammy, Paul and Kamal still to come. Big hitting from these three in the last six overs and the President's IX got to 177.

The President wins by 7 runs to regain the trophy and now has to negotiate with Mandy to find somewhere for it to be displayed.

Congratulations to Mike and his team and thanks to everyone for making it a good night out.
