Dorset Tour 2010
16th - 18th July
Tour Report
After two narrow defeats in recent weeks, I am pleased to report that the Breakers returned to winning form this weekend on our tour to Dorset .
Venturing away from the Cotswolds this year, the tourists made their way to The Anvil Inn at Pimperne on a fine Friday afternoon.

A hastily arranged BBQ and game of skittles at The Langton Arms more than made up for the disappointment of Marnhull's late decision to cancel the 20/20 game, with Steve Z winning this year's Killer trophy after an early exit by the bookie's favourite John King, who blamed two many halves of Piddle for his poor coordination

Saturday: RLB v Ferndown Wayfarers @ Dolmans Farm
On Saturday morning, Jon Southey auctioned off the new kit in the pub garden before the team made their way towards the New Forest, or Lilliput as it turned out, for the game against Ferndown Wayfarers on the outskirts of Wimborne. This is the point at which I have to thank the Fixtures Secretary for organising the games, but next year I must remind him that we are allowed to play against sides taller than he is and that not everyone in the team has been CRB checked.

Ferndown ‘Colts’ won the toss and surprisingly elected to bat but after Will and Mark S had reduced them to 9-3 off 5 overs, it was time to give others a bowl in order to avoid an early finish and a 'lemonade' match.
Ferndown Wayfarers Cricket Club
Oliver P, Will King and Kamal bowled tidily in contrast to Jon King and Bunny's pie throwing but it was left to the wicket keepers in the side to serve up a buffet and give the boys a few runs. Risking a fine for beer avoidance, your skipper agreed to extend the game to a 40 over match helping the Wayfarers to finish on 122-6.

Bunny and Andy Angel opened the batting whilst the remainder of the team digested their jelly and ice cream. Andy hit a 4 over square leg but was then caught out playing the same shot.

Bunny attacking the bowling
Oliver joined Bunny and they played themselves in for the next 12 overs
whilst the crowd went to sleep. 28-1 off 13 overs. A change of umpires allowed your skipper to issue a 'hit out or get out’ instruction and they raced along to 53 before Oliver was given lbw for 21 in the 16th over. Bunny continued to attack the Oliver watching the ball bowling and before we knew it, he was four runs of his first 50 for the club, only to be denied by that old fox, John King and his twitchy finger.

Mark Southey was promoted up the order in an attempt to get his batting average down (too much gloating) but with Kamal hitting 22 of the 25th over, the game finished with Legbreakers winning by 7 wickets and Mark's average even higher!

Sunday: RLB v Child Okeford @ Child Okeford
Expectations of playing against a side taller than Will are not high when you turn up at Child Okeford and the changing rooms are not available because there's a kiddies' party going on.

Child Okeford Cricket Club
With a clear blue sky and Mr Duckworth not available in a team comprised almost entirely of Lewises, Legbreakers decided to bowl first on a green and spongy wicket in a 35 over match. After a patient start, the Child Okeford openers showed us how short the boundaries were and how easy it was to lose the ball by putting on 72 despite some fine bowling the first wicket in 15 overs from Mark Anderson.
The partnership only ended when Jon Southey took the catch at deep mid wicket that nobody wanted to come their way to give Mark the wicket he deserved. A change of bowling in the 17th over and some good fielding for the next ten then changed the game. Tony Bunge took a superb one handed catch over his head off Will’s bowling, Mark Anderson two catches in the same over at extra cover, Jon Southey trapped their opener lbw for 42 and Mr Z took the slowest stumping in history. 82-1 had become 92-6. Two more wickets for Will and Okeford were 100-8. Sensibly, their nos. 7, 9 and 11 realised that they had 10 overs left and moved the score onto 156 before Trevor got a catch behind and then a catch in front off his own bowling off the last ball to end the innings on 164.

After an alfresco tea and more team photos, Jon Southey and Steve Z opened the batting and put on 47 before Jon was caught out for 17.
Will scratched around for a bit whilst Steve plundered the bowling but the drinks break came at a bad time and Steve was out for 49. 72-2 off 19 overs.
Will first found his timing and then the boundary, and then he and Mark A took the score to 167 with 6 overs to spare. Steve Z & Jon S opening the batting

Breakers win by 8 wicket
Champagne moment: Tony’s catch
Man of the Match: Will King for his 53 and 4-14, just from Steve Z who made 49 and took 2 catches and a stumping.
Will K & Mark A with a 95 run
Partnership to win the game.
Thanks to all the breakers and WAGS who went on tour for making it such a success, and especially to Mark, Oliver and Will for helping to organize everything.
