Richmond Leg Breakers Cricket Club - 2010

                      Annual Indoor Cricket Match 2010

               PRESIDENT’S VIII v CAPTAIN’S VIII
                                                                            Friday 2nd December

                                  Match Details

Friday night saw a good turn out for the annual indoor game despite the snow, probably   motivated by England's performance down under. Rumours that Johnson and Hifenhaus would be playing as they had nothing on this weekend were regrettably unfounded but with the next generation of Legbreakers turning out instead they may have struggled to get selected in any event.

Batting first, the President's VIII  got off a good start with Jon S and guest player, Mike Reeves scoring a very positive 55 before Olly and Bunny' threw some pies down to reduce the total to 30 off 4 overs.

Chris Keith and Pete Taylor (guest Aussie, playing for a place in the Aussie team in Perth) put on 48 before losing 3 wickets in their last over to put the score on 63 at the half way stage.

Amber Chapman

batted with the President and showed us how she has picked up Dave's ability to hit the ball hard and

run casually between the wickets whilst William Stewart impressed by bowling nothing like his

dad. Chappo and Mr Z  then took the score past one hundred with some attacking cricket, Mark A

showed how good he can be at hitting a single stump when your skipper took one below the belt, and

the President's VIII finished on 122.

In reply, the Captain's VIII got off to a steady start with William Stewart putting Bunny through his

paces, Olly and your skipper coped well with Cal Chapman's bowling and at 63 off 8 overs, the match

was evenly balanced. Once Mark S had stopped waltzing around between the wickets, he and Jeremy

took the score to 110 to leave Mark A and Burnsy to avoid snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. A

hat trick from Chappo kept the pressure on but wth the instructions from the rest of the team getting

louder all the time, Mark A found his forward defensive shot and the Captain's VIII finished on 158.

Captain's VIII won by 36 runs, the closest finish yet, and now lead the series 3-1.

Big thanks to Mark for organising both the cricket and the after match pizza, always difficult on the run

up to Christmas.

Thanks also to all the guests and especially William, Amber and Cal. The future's bright...

Have a great Christmas and New Year. Don't forget to forward your subs if you haven't done so

already, and see you at nets.
