Annual Indoor Cricket Match 2014

PRESIDENT’S VIII v CAPTAIN’S VIII

                                                                                              Friday 16th October
                                     Match Details

On Friday night, at a newly refurbished Lords Academy, the Captain's VIII beat the
President's VIII by 16 runs in the end of season indoor game. A spate of last minute injuries of a scale and timing normally associated with the England football team resulted in several late changes to the team including the President himself, Stand in President, Mark Southey, won the toss and decided to field, knowing that he had all the bowlers and big hitters, with Brother Jon keeping wicket for both sides and Bunny somewhere out on the Westway.  Batting first for The Captain, South Australians Phil Killicoat and Laclan Heyson reprised their performance from last year showing intent ahead of next summer's Ashes, putting 69 on the board after 4 overs. Oliver and Rob May scored steadily, adding a further 47 without loss and 115 at the half way stage put the Captain's VIII in a good position. Last year's
top
scorers, Sam Kremer and your skipper went from hero's to zeros getting out 4 times, twice to Bunny's pies and twice to new boy, Mark's off cutters and made only 31 before Steve and Jack put the Team back on track with 54 to reach 201-6 off 16 overs.

In reply, thePresident's VIIIgot off a steady start with Trevor nurdling and Alex stylishly late cutting to score 46 off the first 4 overs. Jeremy and Bunny were going well taking the score to 88 off  7 overs before Steve Z took three wickets in a game changing over and the President's VIII were down to 79 at the halfway way stage. Still anyone's game though with all those big hitters to come. Mark and Mark started hitting the back net but some good catching restricted their score to 51 for the third pair, leaving Chappo and Burnsey to score 72 to win, nine less than Mark and Burnsey scored last year.  They had a pretty good go and although they scored 70, the loss of 3 wickets cost them 15 runs and the President's VIII ended their innings on 185-10. Game over for the President and all in 50 minutes.

The result of the 8th indoor game therefore was that the Captain's VIII won by 16 runs although interesting to note that the President's VIII actually scored 235 runs on the night, 4 more than the Captain's VIII.  Great performances from everyone and a good fun night. Mark managed to retrieve the trophy from his loft where it has been since Claire paid him to hide it and it now returns to the Captain's cabinet for another year.

Thanks to everyone for making it such a good night out and see you all after Christmas in the nets.
