Annual Indoor Cricket Match 2009
PRESIDENT’S VIII v CAPTAIN’S VIII
Friday 4th December
Match Report

The rain might have stopped play in Durban to give England the one day series 2-1 but it didn't prevent the annual President's VIII v Captain's VIII Indoor game at Lords from going ahead on Friday night. With Burnsy bowling at full speed, the President's VIII got off a good start restricting the Captain and his partner to 27 off the first 4 overs. Jon Southey took a stunning one handed catch off his own bowling and Steve Z, who was definitely not asleep, took three stumpings off Emily's bowling.
The Captain's VIII posted a competitive total of 177 which was a good performance given the quality of bowling and fielding from the President's VIII.
In reply, the President's VIII got off to a steady start with Bunny and Jon nurdling their way along, but too many pre-match mince pies slowed them down between the wickets. Emily and Little BenTruchard did their best against that mean Mr Chapman, Amber and Paulot, but at the halfway stage 150 runs were still needed. Always up for a challenge, guest president Will King went for it and with Burnsy put on the highest partnership of the evening of 57 to finish the match.
It was really only thanks to the athleticism of Mike C at the back of the net that made it a much closer game.

The result was that the Captain's VIII won by 42 runs and like England go 2-1 up in the series.
