TOUR - Child Okeford v Richmond Leg Breakers Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 18 Jul 2010 at 1pm
Richmond Leg Breakers Cricket Club Won by 8 wickets
Match report
Expectations of playing against a side taller than Will are not high when you turn up at Child Okeford and the changing rooms are not available because there's a kiddies' party going on.
With a clear blue sky and Mr Duckworth not available in a team comprised almost entirely of Lewises, Legbreakers decided to bowl first on a green and spongy wicket in a 35 over match. After a patient start, the Child Okeford openers showed us how short the boundaries were and how easy it was to lose the ball by putting on 72 for the first wicket in 15 overs despite some fine bowling from Mark Anderson. The partnership only ended when Jon Southey took the catch at deep mid wicket that nobody wanted to come their way to give Mark the wicket he deserved. A change of bowling in the 17th over and some good fielding for the next ten then changed the game. Tony Bunge took a superb one handed catch over his head off Will’s bowling, Mark Anderson two catches in the same over at extra cover, Jon Southey trapped their opener lbw for 42 and Mr Z took the slowest stumping in history. 82-1 had become 92-6. Two more wickets for Will and Okeford were 100-8. Sensibly, their nos. 7, 9 and 11 realised that they had 10 overs left and moved the score onto 156 before Trevor got a catch behind and then a catch in front off his own bowling off the last ball to end the innings on 164.
After an alfresco tea and more team photos, Jon Southey and Steve Z opened the batting and put on 47 before Jon was caught out for 17. Will scratched around for a bit whilst Steve plundered the bowling but the drinks break came at a bad time and Steve was out for 49. 72-2 off 19 overs. Will first found his timing and then the boundary, and then he and Mark A took the score to 167 with 6 overs to spare. Breakers win by 8 wickets
Champagne moment: Tony’s catch
Man of the Match: Will King for his 53 and 4-14, just from Steve Z who made 49 and took 2 catches and a stumping.
