Edgware Rangers v Richmond Leg Breakers Cricket Club Sunday XI on Sun 15 May 2011 at 1.30pm
Richmond Leg Breakers Cricket Club Won by 76 runs

Match report Legbreakers season got off to a winning start on Sunday with a 73 run win over Edgware Rangers at Tiffin School on the 20th anniversary of the club’s first game. The overcast and rather chilly conditions meant that the game was not called off due to fine weather like last week and everyone got to wear their pullovers at least once this year. Breakers won the toss and elected to bat first. Bunny and Steve Zangari opened and got off to a good start putting on 40 for the first wicket before Bunny was bowled trying to push things along. Mr Z was enjoying the opportunity to use his new bat which he has been lovingly stroking all winter amidst declarations that he is aiming to win the batting rather than the duck award this year. All those air shots in front of the mirror were paying off as Steve put on another 45 with Will (16) and then 101 in 9 overs with Kamal, who walloped 27 off the 21st over before being caught for 44. Steve was eventually out for 121 in the 25th over with the score at 211. Jon Southey made a useful 26, Burnsy got a good ball from Tom Sapsed who was sportingly playing for the oppo, Sunny hit 2 sixes in his 14,and Mark S started as he means to go on by finishing unbeaten, before the innings closed on 273-7.

Burnsy and Scotty opened the bowling and although both troubled the batsmen, the discovery at the tea interval that the pitch was a yard short explained why the batsmen got a few more full tosses than normal not only from them but also Mark and Kamal. A suicidal run broke the deadlock with the score at 84 but Edgware pushed onto 141-2 by the 22nd over before Mark got their opening bat caught behind for 60. A stunning one handed catch by Scott gave Sunny his first wicket of the season before he then trapped Tom lbw. Will worked the other end well as Sunny made lots of noise, and wickets fell regularly as Edgware went from 143-4 to 197 all out.

A great start to the season. Particularly well done to Steve and Kamal as well as Will (4-21) and Sunny (3-28). Thanks to Navin for turning out (and hitting a six over extra cover) and we hope to see him again this year.

Champagne moment: Scotty’s catch

Surbiton Imps next week on the next pitch. See you there.
